Publications

At Ulrike Quade Company, we believe in the power of open source. In our Center Stage Robotics project, we bring together professionals from different fields. They share various visions, questions and ideas that contribute to new insights and future developments. These insights are shared in various articles, published in Theatererkrant.

Articles

In these articles we explore how the performing arts are dealing with the increasing influence of technology. We look at the possibilities technology offers and how it is changing our society and theater. We discuss what it takes to make meaningful connections between technology, theater and society, and how technology affects the artistic process.

.

“Yesterday’s puppets are tomorrow’s robots.”

To better understand these topics, we interviewed creators, organizations and creative technologists. This allowed us to combine our own knowledge with developments in the industry.

Read the articles to discover more about the impact of technology on the performing arts and the search for connections between art, technology and society.

Speculative fiction in theater

Futurism and the physical

How can theatrical and technological processes interact as fruitfully as possible? How do you make sure to maintain leeway during the often slow process of making with complicated technology?

What role do we want technology to play in our lives? And what do technological changes mean for our perspectives on people, the world, and the arts themselves?

Untapped capital

Technology is visible in more and more plays, sometimes even as characters. As a maker, how do you combine this with dramaturgy, acting and scenography so that it remains a performance and not an experiment?

Recording how we make theater is complex, but valuable behind-the-scenes insights can be important later or for other creators. How do we best store this information?
