The Wall (New)

At the centre of The Wall there are three historical figures pursuing their convictions with absolute abandon. Out of the contrasts between Meinhof’s social ideals and Göring’s radical pursuit of power, Medea’s love tragedy is born again. And even though their motives and situations are totally different, for their beliefs all three of them would go crashing through any wall if need be – true till death.

De Volkskrant, November 2008
“The Wall is pitch-black, but wonderful. The physical control of the performers, including Quade herself, is impressive, and the live music from Erik Sanko is exciting, especially in combination with the closing image of a devilish figure dressed in deceptive virgin white”.

Het Parool, November 2008
“The Wall, by artist Ulrike Quade, is like an angry fairytale.
It is beautifully designed and simply performed in a combination of
dance, mime and puppetry.”

Background of THE WALL

The initial version of The Wall was developed in 2007 for the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Ulrike Quade had then invited visual artists, dancers and musicians to conquer the large museum space together with her. She assimilated their personal fascinations and stories to a penetrating and poetic fabric of images. And due to the positive reactions she decided to create a theatre production together with these same artists.
