Me Too - a sideshow

Ulrike Quade has played Me Too - a sideshow at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last summer. Please read what the press had to say about this performance.

The British Theatre Guide (****) August 2009
Ben Aitken

“This is like nothing I have seen, heard, eaten or done before.” […] ”This a one woman show which displays surrealism, physical dexterity and uncompromised theoretical intentions.” […] “It is to be marveled at, laughed at and decoded.”

The Scotsman (***) August 29, 2009
Claire Smith

“There is no denying the skill of Ulrike Quade, who manages to bring her two-headed creation to life. The animated puppet head is so lifelike at times you confuse the real head and the one made of foam.” […] “There are some amazing moments and the music and film accompaniment creates a haunting atmosphere of sleazy sideshow caravan life.”

The Herald (***) August 13, 2009
“Quade quite brilliantly brings Daisy and Violet to life.” “It’s not an especially comfortable show for kids (over 16s only) but it is a tour de force of manipulative invention […]”

The Stage, August 30, 2009
Duska Radosavlevic

“Ulrike Quade is a lady with a remarkably rich imagination and the wherewithal to put it on the stage with originality and charm.”

Did you ever dream of never being alone, of always having someone at your side?

The life of Siamese twins Daisy and Violet is one big Revue Act. Since childhood they have stood in the spotlights. They share a beating heart and their clairvoyant son, Arthur, who sees the future. But behind the solidarity of their shared destiny, hides the inevitable destruction of two torn souls.

For Me Too - a sideshow, Ulrike Quade has found inspiration in the intriguing bond of Daisy and Violet, named after the famous Siamese twins the Hilton sisters, who had a musical Vaudeville act in the 1920’s. In the setting of a cheap Revue, the exploitation of freaks and raw backstage romanticism, this unbreakable duo lives on the borderline between dream and reality.

press excerpts

De Volkskrant, October 2006

“This theatre maker excels at a type of puppetry where the puppet does not conceal or stand beside the puppeteer, but becomes an extension of her.“ “… it is so well performed that you forget they are both skin and foam rubber”.

theatercentraal.nl, October 2006

“…in Me Too, Quade is showing once again that she has an enormous variety of talents at her disposal”.
